Stone Masonry
Overview
Throughout the company’s history I-W have been involved in some interesting and very intricate high profile stone projects, including new build projects and refurbishment works across the whole country using varying types of stone. We can offer a very high standard of finish with the knowledgeable and experienced team of masons we employ.
A good example is the refurbishment and extension of the St Pancras Chambers hotel. This project uses a vast range of stones to match existing stones from the main station. The refurbishment works are being undertaken by our expert team of stone masons, working and hand carving on site from stone block to match in exactly with the existing profiles, a very delicate and skilled operation.
The main works to the hotel West Wing is new build and this has to match the Westside buildings I-W built previously in 2006. The stone is manufactured and installed to extremely high tolerances to achieve the required finish.
Featured Project - 49 Park Lane
Completed in 2009 this was a very high profile office development at 49 Park Lane adjacent to the Dorchester hotel. This limestone project was very demanding with dentil coursing, circular columns, profiled copings and also featured capital units to the heads of the street level columns.
The main feature was large ornate stone clad portico incorporating Jura limestone plinths and Portuguese limestone to the upper column surrounds. The head of the portico comprised three large units which were fixed back to a structural steel frame. The inner face of the columns had an ornate feature architrave in Jura limestone to give the desired entrance framing effect.
This was all constructed in a very confined working area which called for some creative logistics to ensure the different units of stone arrived on site at the right time and to enable the necessary access for installation.
