Computer WorkstationIW pioneered the introduction of computers on to building sites as early as 1991. These days all our major projects are equipped with a mixture of PC's, laptop's, inkjet printers, digital cameras, modems and ISDN equipment.

Following the appointment of a dedicated IT manager and with the recent move to a new head office, IW have embraced the opportunity to overhaul its core IT infrastructure. A high speed fibre optic link supplies telephony and internet access to the building where it connects with our digital telephone and voicemail system. File, print, fax and e-mail services run on Microsoft Windows 2000 servers, whilst accounting functions run on an ultra reliable Unix box. The hardware is protected by heavy duty uninterruptible power supplies, whilst data is backup up on to tape every night.

We now have the ability to interface with a variety of electronic project management systems such as Hummingbird, ProjectNet, Columbus, Datastream, EDMS and TDM.

We also have a wide experience of project scheduling software, such as PowerProject Teamplan, Microsoft Project 2000 and Prima Vera SureTrak, that enables us to easily exchange programme information in whatever form suits the customer.

Site management staff and surveyors use laptops  and are able to dial in whilst away from the office in order to keep in touch. Documents are scanned in whenever possible to reduce paperwork.

Finally, towards the end of a project, Operation & Maintenance manuals are reproduced on our high quality colour laser printer, and all information concerned with the contract is securely archived electronically.
