Manufacturing cement of a consistently high quality is of tremendous importance to us.

Our team provides technical support to customers nationwide. Well qualified and with years of experience within the cement and concrete industry, our team of technical development managers can provide advice to help businesses grow, including;

  • Reducing carbon in concretes to improve sustainability
  • Selecting the best product mixes to reduce costs
  • The use of cement additions

The technical development managers are available online or for site visits. To contact support please telephone: 0330 123 4525 or email cement.customer.services@heidelbergmaterials.com. Additional contact details are available here.

They are supported by technical assistants based at our laboratory, responsible for the testing of concrete samples and providing technical data on the performance of cement from our three works and on Regen from our three manufacturing facilities.

Testing is also carried out on customer's concrete mixes to ensure it matches their requirements.

Our laboratory

Maintaining a consistent level of cement and Regen quality is essential to successful concrete manufacture. Based in Scunthorpe, our laboratory holds full QSRMC/CPC accreditation, and provide testing facilities for the cements made at our three works, and Regen GGBS from our three manufacturing plants. These performance reports are available here.

Testing is also carried out on customer’s concrete mixes to ensure it matches their requirements. Our team of technical development managers and technical services manager are available to contact here.

Temperature profiling and temperature matched curing are two key services offered by the Heidelberg Materials Cement technical services team. They are used to demonstrate that the concrete complies with the thermal criteria and that its strength development does not impinge on the construction programme.

Technical support - temperature matched curing

Temperature profiling and temperature matched curing are two key services offered by the Heidelberg Materials Cement technical services team.

They are used to demonstrate that the concrete complies with the thermal criteria and that its strength development does not impinge on the construction programme.

Temperature profiling and temperature matched curing can be beneficial in precast operations to demonstrate the actual in-situ strength of the concrete elements in comparison to cubes cast and cured either at ambient temperatures or at 20 degrees C.

They can also help control early-age thermal cracking, which occurs when the tensile strain – arising from either restrained thermal contraction or a temperature differential – exceeds the tensile strain capacity of the concrete.

Through temperature profiling and temperature matched curing we are able to demonstrate:

  • Optimal strike time and lifting of precast elements – potentially improving operational efficiencies, for example the possibility of double casting
  • The benefits of replacing part of the Cem I with type II additions/replacements such as Regen GGBS for sulfate resisting applications
  • That Regen GGBS gives a lower peak temperature and close temperature profile control, reducing the chance of early-age thermal cracking

Sustainability

Reducing the amount of carbon embodied within concrete is an essential sustainability target, and Heidelberg Materials Cement has solutions for this. Using Regen GGBS to replace a proportion of the cement in a concrete can deliver substantial reductions in CO2, as well as increasing its durability.

Our team of technical development managers can guide you through how to use Regen, as well as highlighting other opportunities for carbon reduction.

We offer a series of webinars on specialist concretes and cements.

Education

Providing information to customers and their supply chains is a key part of our technical support. Our team provides CPD presentations on Specifying Sustainable Concrete, highlighting how cement additions such as Regen GGBS can be used to reduce carbon in concrete. These can be delivered virtually or face-to-face (post COVID-19). To book a CPD please click here. We also offer a variety of webinars covering sustainability and innovative products. They are all free to join and last one hour, so sign-up for any that are of interest. See what is available here.
