On-site batching plants

Provision and management of site batching plants

Hanson has a wealth of experience in the provision and management of site batching plants.

Supplied projects

In recent years we have supplied well over one million cubic metres of concrete from site-based plants to a range of projects including:

  • Hinkley Point C nuclear power station
  • Kirtling Street, London, for the Thames Tideway project
  • Renaker Towers, Manchester
  • Jaguar Land Rover, Mercia Park development

There are huge benefits in site batching for major projects, ranging from reduced transport costs and continuity of supply through to flexible production and top quality service. Our site plants can produce bespoke mixes for a range of applications and they are all QSRMC certified, guaranteeing consistent, high quality concrete.

Raw material supply is underpinned by our upstream aggregates, cement and GGBS production units and we have a national network of over 175 fixed concrete plants to offer back-up if required.

For all but the most demanding jobs, preparing the site is simple. Where appropriate, we can supply site plants with integrated steel foundations to keep preparation to an absolute minimum.

We work closely with the client through the whole of a project’s lifecycle, providing expert support and guidance on all aspects of the concrete supply, from laying out the site for optimal efficiency, to advising on mixes and pumping.

Sustainable solutions

As a market leader in GGBS, we can provide mixes requiring substantially less Portland Cement, with an equivalent saving in carbon dioxide emissions. All our plants can be supplied with a recycling unit to recycle water and recover aggregate from truck mixer washing, plant washing, and returned concrete. We can also put in place a number of measures to minimise dust and noise, including full cladding for the site batching plant.

Delivering success

We can move many of our plants to any part of the country by truck and have it set up, in most cases, in less than a week, depending on plant size. We provide experienced, fully trained staff to take care of the day to day operation of the plant. All our site plants are run to the same high safety and quality standards as our static operations.

Our fleet of over 20 plants gives us the flexibility to serve a range of projects, with short lead times. We can offer a wide range of wet batch production capacities (from 60 to 150m3 per hour).

Site requirements

Depending on the project and the site plant we recommend, exact site requirements will vary. Our team will be happy to advise on what is needed to prepare the site.

Customers need to provide:

Approx 2,500 square metres site area, including sunken catchpit, washout bay, and space for aggregate storage as necessary

Mains power with 300kVA 3 phase – or as dictated by plant spec

Mains water – min 50mm mains pressur

Telephone – digital connectivity

Fuel point

Hanson will provide:

Mobile plant such as loading shovel

Sustainable low carbon concrete solutions

Heidelberg Materials concrete can incorporate a proportion of Regen, (Ground Granulated Blast furnace Slag or 'GGBS'), which is a cement replacement material, helping to produce a product that generates a much lower level of CO2 emissions than ordinary cement.

Learn more about Regen

Heidelberg Materials has developed its EcoCrete® range of low carbon concretes to make it easier to access low carbon concretes. EcoCrete® reduces the CO2 emissions associated with standard CEM I concrete by up to 85 per cent, helping contractors and clients meet their carbon reduction targets.
